Layered and sweetly-fruited, the wine is nicely balanced and lengthy. It has enough stuffing to evolve for 1-2 years but can be enjoyed now. It is a superb value. Bodegas Ateca is a new partnership between the Gil family of Jumilla and importer Jorge Ordonez."

"Complex aromas of berries, tobacco and cedar follow through to a fullbodied palate, with fine tannins and a long finish with sweet fruit and vanilla. Best wine from here in a long time…" The 2001 Alleanza is the product of a joint winemaking partnership by Ed Sbragia, Winemaster for California’s Beringer Vineyards and Giancarlo Roman, Winemaker for Tuscany’s Castello di Gabbiano. Ed contributed his expertise in using French barrique, deciding when and how long the wine should age, while Giancarlo, with over 30 years of experience making classic Tuscan wines, provided his expertise with Sangiovese.
The deep ruby red Alleanza 2001 is a blend of 50% Sangiovese, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is filled with aromas of prunes, pepper, nutmeg, and fragrant hints of violet. The palate offers ripe plum and berry flavors that are interwoven with layers of cinnamon, vanilla, tobacco and licorice. The tannins are round and well balanced, while the finish is long and accented with a hint of toasted cocoa.
Enjoy with braised meats, roasted game dishes and aged cheeses.

Our Viognier captures all the qualities that have made this grape variety prized for centuries in its native Rhone Valley. The aromas are perfumed with gardenia, honeydew melon, apricot and peach. The bright fruit character carries through in the opulent, beautifully balanced flavors, and then lingers on the finish. Most remarkable is the rich, silky texture of Viognier. It has a natural lushness on the palate that we have emphasized by barrel-fermenting and aging the wine in neutral, four-year-old French oak barrels. We gently stirred the yeast lees during the ten months of aging to contribute roundness and complexity, without pronounced oak character that would distract from the focused fruit expression.
